Horace Alexander Young is a Houston-born saxophonist, flutist, composer, arranger, and vocalist whose career has spanned more than four decades, five continents, and over a hundred recordings — a complete musician in the truest sense, he is comfortable in any setting, on a festival stage in the Swiss City of Montreux, a recording studio, or even a small university classroom.

With early studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, he was later trained at Texas Southern University and Washington State University. Horace has built a career around what his mentors called the "360 musician" — fluent in jazz, R&B, gospel, soul, and classical.

Horace has performed and recorded with B.B. King, Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, McCoy Tyner, Joe Sample, The Crusaders, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Natalie Cole, and spent seventeen years as Musical Director and featured soloist for NEA Jazz Master Abdullah Ibrahim — a partnership that included conducting the National Symphony of South Africa for Ibrahim's 1993 welcome-home concert during the final days of apartheid.
